Hello Families!

We're less than two weeks away for what hopefully is one of the best weekends of your lives! My name is Adam Powers, and my name is Christie Valenzona, together, we have the privilege of being your camp directors for Friends & Family Camp at Woodleaf over Memorial Day weekend. We have an awesome team of folks that have been planning for this specific weekend, and each one of us can't wait for you all to arrive at Woodleaf!

Here's a list of a few things to help you prepare for the weekend and a schedule for reference. Please read carefully.

ARRIVAL

You can begin arriving any time after 10:30am on Saturday, May 26th. You will be able to "move in" to your cabins by 12 noon at the latest, possibly earlier. Lunch will be served promptly at 1pm, so we recommend arriving to Woodleaf no later than 12:15pm. Upon arrival, we will direct you to our registration station to get you and your family checked in and will direct you from there to your cabins.

If you haven't been to Woodleaf before, we would also recommend looking up the driving directions (use the address 11359 LaPorte Rd, Challenge, CA 95925) before you depart since as you get closer to camp you will likely lose cell service and hence your smart phone maps.

HEALTH FORM

Please print and fill out the health form linked on the button for EACH camper BEFORE you arrive. You will turn the form in for each camper at our registration station upon arrival.

WHAT TO PACK

  • Sleeping bag and pillow for each camper (or your own linens for twin size beds)

  • 1-2 towels (one for swimming, one for shower)

  • Clothes for fun in the sun and for cooler evenings. You can check the forecast

for Woodleaf by entering in the town of Challenge, CA.

  • Swim suit

  • Toiletries, including sun screen and bug spray.

  • One "Western-themed" outfit for a special event. Don't worry about going crazy.

This can simply be jeans, plaid/flannel shirts, bandannas, etc. But by all means,

if you have cowboy/girl hats, boots, and belt buckles, bring 'em!

  • One pair of clothes you don't mind getting a little messy and wet.

  • One pair of closed-toed athletic type shoes.

  • Pack and play and strap-on high chair for families with young kids (see note below)

Red Dirt: Woodleaf has red dirt that stains, so don't plan on wearing your brand new white shoes unless you want them going home with a nice reddish tint.

Families with young kids: If you have really young kids that you don’t want sleeping on a bunk bed, you can bring a pack and play for them or pull the mattress off the bunk bed and put it on the floor for them to sleep on. Also, Woodleaf has a very limited number of high chairs. So if you have the kind that straps onto the chair and/or a booster seat for your toddler, bring it.

SLEEPING ARRANGEMENTS

Sleeping will be in cabins with bunk beds. Families will likely be sharing a cabin with whomever you requested and/or other families from your area. If you would like to section off your family's part of the cabin for additional privacy, feel free to bring sheets, painter's tape, string, etc to create your own makeshift divider.

KIDS' CLUBS

We will have four clubs during the weekend which are when we will all gather together to sing, laugh, and hear from our camp speaker, Cara Meredith. We have several gifted parents and volunteers that are planning special activities for your children during these times. Kids aged 0-2 can be dropped off right before club starts. All other kids will come with their parents and participate in the first portion of the club. Then they will be dismissed by age group (3-5, 6-8, 9-11, 12-14) to go with our designated volunteers for the rest of club where they will be able to participate in activities crafted for their specific age group. We will explain in greater detail at camp, but wanted to give you a heads up for now.

DEPARTURE

We will be departing Woodleaf at around 11:30am on Monday, May 28th.

That's all for now. We’ve attached pictures of our families, (top - Adam, Rachel and Lucy) (bottom - Christie, Guy, Avery and Bailey) that way you'll know our faces so when you see us at camp, don't hesitate to say hello and/or ask us any questions. Our job is to make sure this weekend is a blast for your family and serves you exceptionally well. See ya soon!
